Many of you will have read back in October (on Making Light and other blogs) about Scraps (Soren) DeSelby (aka, baldanders), a freelance copyeditor who suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. The most recent updates say that he's progressing in his convalescence (starting to walk again, etc.), but as he had no health insurance, money is a problem - and will likely continue to be for the foreseeable future. I only know him by reputation, but many of his friends (and friends of friends) have been involved with fund-raising efforts to help defray the costs of medical treatment. One of my own friends - sykii - is selling prints of her [quite wonderful] photos for the first time as part of this fund-raising effort. bethbethbeth	6:38p	Addendum to my previous post regarding La Belle Archive Sans Permissions: At the moment, if you click on the main page, this is the message you get: A better idea. Not gone (my computer's in the shop so if I took it down now I would lose everything. I'm on library computer right now- added Firefox FTP to the browser). I'll password protect the site for my eyes only. If no one can get in to see it, there should be no problem. This will have to do for the time being. It's all you'll be getting for now. I'll take your fics off my site when I get my computer back in about 2 weeks. I'm almost out of time at the library as it is. As I type this, the other pages are still accessible (like the HP fanfic page, for example), but they're not linked from the main page and she seems to be trying to disable the header links. I'm slightly suspicious about the convenient timing of the computer being in the shop, but the fact that she's taken any action at all is promising. I'll be keeping a watch for the password protection... ETA: Now there's a note that issues a stern warning: Also, stop sending me emails. You're flooding my box. If I get 10 more, I'm changing my address and you won't be able to contact me. So stop. There's no need any longer as the whole site is going down. Um...does she realize that the many emails are all coming from different people, writing one at a time, not a group of people writing as part of a concerted effort? bethbethbeth	10:26a	Does everybody already know about this site - http://www.amortentia.net/ - which is archiving people's stories (without their apparent knowledge), and I'm just totally out of the loop? There are stories in five fandoms (Harry Potter [the vast majority], Gundam Wing, Doctor Who, Lord of the Rings, Stargate Atlantis) and many very recognizable author names, including - by glancing at only a few pages - luthien, dementordelta, predatrix, spike21, scribblinlenore, thetreacletart, atdelphi, the_con_cept, josanpq, geoviki, scribbulus_ink among others. Clearly, the site maintainer doesn't want to be noticed. She writes: "Now, why is it that I'm treating you as though I know you? Well that's simple! I must know you for you to have found your way here! xD I took this off of search engines and it's pretty much virtually impossible to find if you're looking for it if you don't have the link." She does speak to writers, just in case: "ANNOUNCEMENT to ALL Fanfic Writers whom happen to find their work on here: I will take your work off of here if you ask me too. D: I won't be very happy too, though. I made this site because I have noticed that a lot of my very favorite stories seem to be rapidly disappearing- what better way to secure them then to put it on my own site? I'd keep it on my computer but it crashes too much for them to be safe there. x.x" There's lots of contact info if you want to communicate with her, starting with her email address <lilliththeoddity@gmail.com> and moving on to a bunch of IM usernames on this page. And yes, of course she's on LJ/IJ (tehopheliac). If you're cool with your stories being archived all over the place, obviously this entry isn't meant for you. I know for a fact that some writers don't care who does what with their fiction after it's been posted. However, if you do care, well... ETA: I just noticed there's a ton of fanart archived on the site too, but I'm less familiar with the styles of individual artists (...they seem to be mainly cartoony/chibi-esque fanworks) (9 Comments |Comment on this)

You provide fandom/s, character/s, pairing/s if you like, and something else--words, lyrics, tropes. Starting on the first night of Hanukah, I will post drabbles or, if inspiration strikes, something longer, just like last year. I'll do crossovers, timestamps for past stories, or anything else I can make work. Along with the usual suspects (SV, SPN, Buffy, XF) I will try anything I think I can do. Contenders include Chuck, Gossip Girl with appropriate characters (hint: Blair Waldorf must pie; Jenny Humphrey must die), and My Own Worst Enemy. wrenlet	11:37p	Apropos of nothing whatsoever... I had an urge to search out this little morsel of YouTube-y goodness. Deadwood Pancakes (... do I even need to warn for cursing? You folks DO remember Deadwood, right? Yeah.) I am 1) not dead, 2) doing mini-nanowrimo, 3) therefore not reading anyone else's nanowork, since as I told tsuki_no_bara, based on past years' experience I am apparently incapable of writing fic and reading fic at the same time. I'm also 4) watching a METRIC BUTTLOAD of television and 5) periodically entertaining my boy by being really bad at video golf. (Funny story: I got him one of the Tiger Woods PGA Tours games for the GameCube for his birthday. He's made his little golf-playing dude, and I've made a golfing dudette for me, and I explained as he was going through menu options that when he wants he can play as actual golf professionals, including Tiger Woods. Now, I thought I had made it clear these were actual golf professionals, but you never know whether these things really sink in... anyway, lately in between rounds of video golf he's been watching The Golf Channel (yes, really!) and weekend before last, as he was watching TV and I was doing something in the kitchen he yelled out, "Mom! Tiger Woods is REAL!!" *laughs and laughs* Ahhhh, kids; you can't make this stuff up, seriously.) Anything not on the above list, I am probably sucking at. (Comment on this)

I avoided looking at the warnings and notes until I'd read the story (because I like to stay entirely spoiler free), but for those of you who only read stories if you know just what to expect, the mystery author's notes are pretty detailed (...and my comments at the end fill in the blanks *g*) Go read "Absence (Makes the Heart Grow Fonder)" - and then go read the snarry_holidays stories you've missed. kelex	3:11a	I need some Sweeney Todd icons... even though I don't post there anymore, I just redid my old Livejournal out with a Sweeeney Todd theme. OF course, I still have my Jeffrey Dean Morgan moodtheme, mostly because I'm too lazy to source out a Sweeney Todd one, and I'm not gonna make one. In other news? I've been addicted to Scream Queens on VH1, and dude, my girl Tanedra is rockin' the joint. I really, really hope she wins. I've also started a MySpace to keep up with James Gunn and the Scream Queen girls. Blah. I've also got the guys from Poison friended, mostly because I'm a Bret Michaels girl all the way around. I've got a couple of Deadwood people friended too, especially W. Earl Brown who played Dan Dority. But, I love him all the more because he played Meat Loaf in the biopic adapted from Meat's autobio, To Hell And Back. What I'm most proud of? Not only did I sign up for Undermistletoe, but I've already finished the fic, and it's off to the beta. I havea feeling there's a few spots she's gonna tell me I need to beef up, but I kinda like it the way that it is. So we'll see! Last, but not least? Johnny Depp has freakin' AMAZING hands. Don't believe me? GO LOOK. I made 366 screencaps of the DVD, and quite a few of them feature Johnny's hands. Seriously. GO LOOK. flail over those fingers. Yes, I'm a freak. Get with the program!
